Camarades, il était une fois les communistes français...
French society seemed to have turned a page with the end of the century. The communist electorate had collapsed, the Party’s foundations had crumbled, an entire universe had disntegrated. But it wasn’t that long ago that the French communists represented the counter-society, when the speeches of Thorez and Marchais were followed with rapt attention at the Fête de l’Huma, when entire generations of children waited impatiently each week for the latest issue of Pif Gadget. Jean Ferrat sang of “Ma France.” This was the France of Aragon and Picasso, Eluard and Yves Montand, the France of the Peace movement and of the Tourism and Labor movement, that of the CGT unions and Humanité Dimanche. 60 years of communist life in France scanned and illustrated with outstanding archive documents, militant films, songs, interviews with leading figures. A collective, intimate adventure, a wealth of varied, moving, funny and cruel destinies to better understand the rites and values of this France... And the culture of comrades.
