Aqui Favela, o Rap RepresentaHere Slum, Rap Represents Us
A journey to the sources of the hip hop movement in São Paulo and Belo Horizonte. The film presents ordinary youngsters who are part of the movement: Thaíde , Mano Brown, Nelson Triunfo, Lady Rap, Sharylane and others, such as the creator of hip hop culture, Afrika Bambaata. They share a common goal: to strengthen their identity, attribute renewed value to African culture, restore self-esteem, and emphasize social complexities through cultural manifestations in the favelas and on the outskirts of cities. New forms of cultural production for the hip hop members go beyond the system of hegemonic production to form a new sphere of ethical, aesthetic and political action.
