Aline is a wild, introverted young girl. She lives with her grandmother in a small village in the Alps. One summer, she falls in love with Oliver, a city-slicker vacationing in the area. When Oliver finally goes home, Aline finds her lonely life in the valley intolerable. She decides to go to the city and marry Oliver. She wants him to be the father of the child she's sure she feels in her belly. But a nasty surprise awaits her in Berne: Olivier is not interested in her or her problems. Aline cannot accept being rejected. Desperate and alone, she gradually becomes mad and begins to hear voices that insistently tell her of a way to unite totally with her lover. Aline invites Oliver for one last dinner.
