Antoni Tàpies, one of the major contemporary Catalonian artists, recently celebrated his 80th birthday. Moving through his work spaces, such as his atelier at Campins or his flat in Barcelona, he explains the meaning of his work. The film also takes us around the world to guage the interest in Tàpies, whether it is at the MoMA in New York or the art galleries of Paris. The film is punctuated by the utterances of critics and specialists who explain the painter’s work and his place in 20th century art. Four of his major works are analyzed: Autoretrat» (1947), «Fons Negre sobre Quadrat Gris» (1960), «Hesychasta» (1996) and «Dietari I, II, III, IV, V» (2002).
