Al-Jazira, des voix arabes
If Al-Jazeera has come to be the most popular channel in the Arab world, and wherever there are Arabs, it is thanks to the contribution of a generation of journalists who embody the aspirations of the street for progress, for a modern, non-religious Arab world. The film follows several of these journalists during the months of February and March, 2003, when the eyes of the world were turned on Iraq. This film tries to show how their discussions, reports, and inner reflections constitute a different angle of vision, a collection of sensibilities that are needed if we are to understand the state of mind of the Arab world today. In Arabic, Al-Jazeera means “little island.” This film is a portrait of a fragile precinct of freedom for the creation and defense of Arab modernity.
