À la recherche de Stephen EliotLooking for Stephen Eliot
At age 8, because he believed his life was in danger, Stephen Eliot was confined with autistic children at the Orthogenic School in Chicago. The institute founded by Bruno Bettelheim was Stephen’s last chance. Stephen’s psychological testes revealed a schizophrenic breakdown, with paranoid anxieties. Bettelheim was convinced the child could be saved, and began a long-term treatment process. It would last thirteen years. Today Stephen is 46 years old and works as a banker in New York. He has just published his memoirs. Stephen’s personal account is the first and only firsthand look inside the Orthogenic School. His history is a moving tale that documents a truly exemplary struggle. How was an aggressive, terrorized and lost child transformed into a young man able to carry out his ambitious plans and become an adult who has carved out his place in society? Our film will retrace this incredible story.
