One autumn day, 28-year-old Michèle goes onto night shift in a French car plant. At the same moment, Farouk retires, after 35 years on the assembly line. Suddenly, nothingness, silence. Michèle and Farouk are neighbors. They run into each other, talk. Jeremie is Michèle's husband. He's a crew head in the sheet metal workshop. Some time ago, he tried to make sense of it all. Today, he contents himself with remaining at his post. Day and night, he is needed "quality control" and "zero defects."
