The Accused
The Accused is a middle-aged businessman facing 25 years in jail for masterminding a drug-smuggling operation. Is he the mastermind or the patsy? His accusers are his ex-girlfriend and a young couple caught at the airport with him. Each has a motive to lie. The Accused is an "anatomy" of a jury trial, which gives us a behind-the-scenes perspective of defense counsel and defendant, and the prosecution, as each prepares his case. We follow one full trial all the way (for the first time in Australia filming the progress within the courtroom from start to finish). Viewing the trial through as many eyes as possible, this documentary presents insights into the day to day processes involved, the roles of the key players, the psychology of the courtroom and the strategies adopted by various players.
