Tanger, le rêve des brûleurs
Across from Tangiers lies Spain, the last natural overhang in Europe. Europe is right there, so close you can almost touch it, flouting new adventurers in search of an easier life. In May 1991, Spain, in unison with the member nations of the Schengen group, decided to submit North African nationals to the visa system. Since then, candidates for illegal emigration have been pouring in Tangiers en masse and non-stop. They are called the "burners:" those who accept everything to get out, burn their papers, their identity, to make sure there's no going back. This film follows three burners, Rhimo, Denis and Aziz, their lives or rather their survival under the challenge they've accepted: "to burn, come what may..."
