Sold Out
“Sold Out” is a rare behind the scenes look at the dark side of professional European soccer. It investigates the exploitation of young African players by international agents and clubs, beginning with the dream of teenage players in Ghana. The film explains how local teams and agents are desperate to sell players abroad in order to increase their financing. The new controversial phenomenon of soccer academies in Africa is examined, showing how professional European clubs set up secondary schools in Africa speculating to find the best raw talent. In Europe, “Sold Out” follows Samuel Eto’o, Cameroon’s star striker, for a match day at his club Real Mallorca in Spain. Finally, the film investigates the cases of three young African players in Europe who have been abandoned by agents and left to fend for themselves on the streets of Belgium.
