Tales on the Marshes
Produced for the 300th anniversary of Saint Petersburg, this video essay uses a blend of film chronicles and basic animation techniques. It adopts the viewpoint of a child as it considers the history of the city and the USSR. Somewhat provocative, the film simplistically but sincerely evokes the most famous events of the political history of the ex-Soviet Union. It begins with an amusing tale about the city of the marshes, then goes on to relate the sad and terrifying story of ordinary people ready to sacrifice their fellow citizens in exchange for a promise of illusory happiness.
