PurityTehora
The Tohorat, the set of ancient laws that painstakingly dictate the rites of women's purity, lie at the heart of orthodox Jewish family life. According to these laws, a woman may not have sexual intercourse with her husband during a period extending two weeks after her menstrual cycle. Before marital relations can resume, the woman must purify herself in the mikveh: in a room equipped with a ritual bath, a woman must check the "purity" of other women. Speaking on this subject in public is forbidden: yet in this secret realm of the mikveh, one courageous woman, Anat, filmed a unique testimony about orthodox Jewish codes of privacy. Through her story and those of other women, there slowly emerge wide-ranging questions about the feelings surrounding this code of silence.
