What is this teaching profession we think we all know about since we all went to school? When you start out without training, like Nathalie and the director, you understand nothing of what you do and the only tool you have at hand is the memory of your old teachers. By following the tribulations of this young schoolteacher and her meetings with other teachers, the school inspector and the educational advisor, the film seeks to gauge the degree of freedom teachers enjoy. Although they are alone and responsible for their classes, everything about school infers the reproduction of standards assimilated from childhood, and it is henceforth difficult to find their own way. If the child's autonomy is the best school objective, maybe school authorities should take an interest in the autonomy of the schoolmaster.
