Ordinary People, Groomed for War
Pride, honour and money are at stake at an improvised racing ground in Pardes Hanna, a sleepy town in Northern Israel and the scene of a clandestine horseracing competition. Gambling is banned in Israel but this does not deter Arabs and Jews from swarming here every two months to stake their best and race their horses. Arabs and Jews intend to temporarily unite in their effort to keep the police at bay but still, racial tensions boil over in the guise of accusations about race-rigging and blackmail. Groomed for war takes a fresh and often humorous look at Arabs and Israelis showing how the conflict between them underlies every aspect of their lives. This episode is part of a series of six exploring the lives of ordinary people in Israel and the Palestinian territories.
