Mein Vater, der MörderMy Father, the Killer
A vehement woman stands before members of the Berlin police force, who stare back in combat stance from behind riot shields. They are being deployed against demonstrators, who are protesting against a National-Democratic Party rally. The elderly Berlin lady wants to know why the officers have told her to get off the streets. “We have our orders!” they say. The woman stops short, and then she says: “That’s what my father always said. My father was a policeman too.” Thus begins Beate Niemann’s unique investigation of the crimes of her parents. Mrs. Niemann has reconstructed this story precisely. The truth, however, was brutal: Bruno Sattler, her father, was a mass murderer in the service of the Nazi regime. The film tells his story forcefully and at breakneck speed, providing insights into Sattler’s criminal career.
