Mariages forcés
Summer, 2001, somewhere in the Paris suburbs. A social worker receives a heartbraking letter from Aïssatou, a 17-year-old French girl, who is stuck in a small village in Mali. Forced to marry a man 20 years her senior, she implores: "I am living dead person, you are my only hope. Please, help me." Her letter, addressed to French justice, never received an answer. September, 2001: the young girl flees on her own. Envoyé Spécial tracked her down to Bamako and accompanied her to France where her ordeal continued. The incident is more frequent than one would think. Forced marriages involving young French women have been on the rise in recent years. For this investigation, several young women fleeing these marriages, rebellious, shattered, lost, accepted to be filmed by our team.
