Mariage pas kasher
Israel, democracy or theocracy ? Apparently, this state has all the attributes of a modern parliamentary democracy. But in Israel, religion plays a major role. One example : civil marriage doesn’t exist. And the rabbis refuse to marry those who can’t prove their judaism. Many young people reject this constraint by going to Cyprus to be joined in wedlock. In recent years, the massive arrivals of Russian immigrants, whose Judaism is more or less recognized, has intensified a debate that is crucial to Israeli society.
