Les Gratte-Ciel de MoscouHigh Rise Moscou
Founded more than 800 years ago, Moscow is one of the oldest Russian cities. Mixture of eras and styles, its buildings reflect both the history of their time and the personality of the autocrat in whose reign they were built. The 20th century gave Moscow its high-rise buildings. They are known as Stalin’s skyscrapers. Joseph Stalin, who ruled the Soviet Union almost single-handedly for nearly thirty years decided to enshrine his name and greatness by building seven skyscrapers in Moscow. He wanted the tallest of them placed in the city center, near the Kremlin : a gigantic government structure, the Palace of Soviets, may be the greatest building in the world. Stalin’s skyscraper are now an integral part of the Moscow skyline. They are permanent monuments to the ruler and tyrants - monuments to comrade Stalin.
