A series of portraits of French movie actresses from the post-war to the present day. For an actor, success means fulfilling one's ambitions and at the same time embodying the great collective dream of a ever-evolving society. Muses of the French New Wave or beacons of more recent changes in French cinema, their fictional characters are conceived along autobiographical lines; they are equally at home in social drama, light comedy, period piece and thriller. In this history of French cinema, composed of 26 and 52 minute portraits, based on interviews conducted between 2000 and 2002, we find the whole range of an actress's real-life experiences.
