Le Dernier Repas
Nov. 9, 2000. In the heart of Huntesville, Texas, where life is good, voters celebrate the victory of George W. Bush. Not far from there, television crews are setting up around Huntsville prison of Walls. Behind the brick walls, a man is finishing his last meal. The menu: milk chocolate, a hamburger, cakes, enchiladas, fries and bacon and eggs. In a few minutes, this man will be executed. At that very moment, Penny Matchett pays a visit on her grandson, Farley, who has been on Death Row for more than ten years now. Every time a man is killed, Penny rushes to comfort Farley, who is losing a cellmate, if not a friend. For her, too, these are hard moments to bear. She can only cling to the hope that her grandson will be pardoned by the state. So far this year, 38 inmates have been executed at Huntesville.
