La Vie en otage

Known as the hub of the Colombian drug trade, Cali, the country's third largest city, is where kidnapping is practiced on a grand scale. Left-wing freedom fighters, paramilitary groups and bandits engage in "la pesca milagrosa - "miracle fishing" - by performing mass abductions. The film deals with the question of hostage taking by looking at a daily radio program, "The Voices of Liberty," which allows the families of hostages to send them messages. Through the testimonies of Colombians from all classes of society, we see the daily drama of the citizens of Cali, their unbearable anxiety and the all-too-rare joy of being reunited with a liberated hostage.
