La Morale et la Putain
On November 5, 2002, prostitutes from all over France demonstrated in front of the Senate building in Paris to protest the new Sarkozy reform bill on law and order, something that hasn't been seen in the past 30 years. They were reacting in particular to Art. 18, which would effectively outlaw prostitution. Passive soliciting, allowed until now, will now carry a punishment of six months in jail. The law not only targets the pimp, but the prostitute, too. Is this the beginning of a moral revolution aimed at whores? The investigative team of "Jusqu'ici tout va bien" (broaecasted on the french TV Chanel+) interviewed prostitutes in Paris, Lyons, Marseille and Toulouse. They all fear that the banning of their profession may only increase frustration and violence among men. They are angry at the confusion made between the "traditionals" who have managed to throw off the yoke of their pimps, and the "foreigners" who are victims of their network. The debate is open. The film organizes confrontations between prostitutes, politicians and locals.
