La Guerra è finitaThe War is Over
June 1940. Three students, Claudio, Giulia and Ettore, have grown up together in Mussolinian Italy. Claude and Ettore are in love with Giulia. She knows it, and, in her way, love both youths at once. But the war upsets their lives. Before leaving for the front--he's joined the fascist army--Claudio has an affair with Giulia, who gets pregnant. To void shame and dishonor, her family sends her to the Abbruzi, where she meets a dissident professor, exiled for his political beliefs. Before being arrested by the police, he manages to slip Giulia important documents for the resistance in Rome as well as a letter for his wife, who is Jewish. Giulia arrives in Rome to learn that the professor's wife is dead. She decides to join the underground and persuades Ettore, whom she meets upon his return from the Russian front, to do likewise. After the armistice of 1943, Claudio, who has fought in Russia as an officer, returns to Italy in Mussolini's army.
