La Danse du serpent
The incredible story of Gulabi Sapera, heroine of the Kalbeliya caste (snake charmer) caste, those first gypsies, nomads who trod the dusty desert roads of Thar in northwest India, from Jaipur to the Pakistani border. If this world-rank artist is praised today by the members of her own community, her early life was not easy. Nonetheless, her persistence and passion for dance and "a little inner voice" drove the child to defy the taboos and become a caste "heroine," one of the great artists of Indian popular dance. Today, the woman who invented the "serpent dance" is now called Gulabo... because her people also consider her as strong as a man. In India, that's saying a lot!
