L'Irak d'une guerre à l'autre
Ten years after the Gulf War, two veterans, one British, the other French, return to Iraq. Why did these soldiers leave the army after the allied intervention against Saddam Hussein? What led them today, to make contact with the Iraqi population? How would the Iraqis--who since the war have felt the devastating effects of sanctions, and whose country has been designated, alongside Iran and North Korea, as part of the "axis of evil"--welcome them? This film takes as its starting point the European or Western perspective of the conflict, then seeks to encompass the perception of the Iraqis - the official account of the regime and above all the viewpoint of ordinary citizen as representatives of communities traditionally opposed to Saddam Hussein (such as Catholics, Shiites, Jews). Many doors, which would otherwise have remained closed, now opened to a delegation of 120 "peace inspectors", mostly from Europe, but also from North Africa, moved by an appeal launched over the Internet. During further encounters with Iraqi soldiers, scientists or artists, their gaze meet ours in regard to the proclaimed will to liberate the Iraqis.
