L'Insolente
She's a child. She only has the right to obey and be silent. So she watches: her all-powerful but penniless mother; her Arab-hating stepfather, just back from Algeria; her maternal grandfather who is very wealthy, especially since the Occupation; her maternal grandmother who still thinks she's back in Indochina; and the Good Lord who is always on their side. To escape, she moves through the 50s and 60s in a hurry to grow up. Fortunately, the little girl has an ally: her paternal grandmother, a modest employee for the Galeries Lafayette department store, who listens to her and makes her laugh.
