L'Héroïque cinématographe
In 1914, the first "motion picture newsreels" were shot at the front. These "on the spot" images gave the illusion of being close to reality. In cinemas, audiences applauded. This film reconstitutes the war log of two cameramen, between 1914 and 1918: one German, the other French. The protagonist comment authentic newsreel images, tracing their evolution as the war progressed. Each becomes aware of the power and responsibility of their images: from the early months of the war in which ideology got the better of the motion picture image (quickly distorted by military censorships), until the last days when the question of the representation of war and atrocities crudely came to the fore.
