Kaboul, le goût de la liberté
Kaboul, August 1959. In the Afghan capital, the independence day celebrations open with an unexpected event: all the women on the official grandstand appear bare-headed. From this symbolic day to the brutal invasion of December 1979, this documentary looks back on Kabul's final 20 years of peace. In the course of historic events, a portrait of a society in full expansion emerges, a society which, impelled by its elite, autonomously conducted a process of voluntarist modernization. It's a reality that has been forgotten, obscured by 25 years of war images. At a time when the reconstruction is underway, the reminder of this past casts an added light on events. Today, it is not impossible to imagine that a link can be forged between this period and the future.
