Most of the Chinese students would be arranged by their schools to take a formation drill in a military camp before entering junior or senior middle school since middle of 1990s. The measure is taken by the school in order to make the students more independent (most of them are the only child of their families). Our production unit spent ten days together with some students who were taking a formation drill during their summer vacation in Langfang City, East China's Hebei Province in August, 2002. We recorded the whole course of their training in the camp. These children come from ordinary Chinese families. This was their first time to be away from home and live a military training camp where is quite strange to them. In such a special environment, the relationship among the students, their parents and the teachers became quite different from what it was. The military training camp is just like an epitome of Chinese society.
