Il était une fois le Rex
In its 70 years of existence, attendance at the Grand Rex cinema hasn't fallen off. Because it is a work of art, a popular landmark site, a magic link between the imagination and the street, the Rex survived the darkest hours of France's recent history. Opened in the 30s, it was turned into a "soldatenkino" during the German Occupation. After the tuxedos and overalls, the Rex welcomed the verdigris uniforms, then the dispirited bodies of French soldiers home from the war. In 1932, the Parisian nights were full of excitement when worlds of fantasy exploded onto its giant screen. Even today, it remains a place of enchantments and delights for all generations... no matter what the film.
