Carlo Maria Giulini is undoubtedly one of the great conductors of our time ; his interpretations, extending from Monteverdi to Arnold Schoemberg, are widely known for their ascetic rigor, linked to an underlying spirituality, the ultimate purpose of all artistic works, according to the Italian maestro. The film tries to understand, through an interview with the Italian conductor, the main steps of his professional adventure; Giulini has never restricted his musical interpretations to a mere quantitative work but concentrated on achieving an authentic moral elevation. As a proof of this, Giulini has given up his activity as a conductor and continuing his work as a teacher, with the purpose of communicating his idea of music as a "sacred" art.
