Gente Feliz com LagrimasTearful Happy People
This film reflects a bitter yet elegiac time in Portugal, a time that in one way or another we can relate to. Tearful, Happy People is a saga about a family that comes apart and reunites in myriad places where they take the good and bad omens that led them to break up. Nuno Miguel, the narrator, embodies the ghost of a miserable childhood in the Azores. The story includes some major references to modern Portuguese history: The colonial war and the Revolution of 1974. The film reveals the various worlds of the characters, and their obsessive search for happiness. This is the short version of a quality five-part television series.
