Gacaca, revivre ensemble au Rwanda ?Gacaca, living together in Rwanda ?
In the space of three months in 1994, some 800,000 Rwandans were massacred in the genocide against the ethnic Tutsi. Eight years on, this film tells of the attempt by the new government to bring about reconciliation through a new form of citizen-based justice, the Gacaca tribunals, whose origins date from pre-colonial times. The focus is on intertwining stories of survivors and prisoners, as they confront one another in this unique system of "Justice on the grass." The film highlights the central issues facing Rwandans in this attempt to find truth, justice and to pardon the unpardonable. Will the Gacaca help foster reconciliation between Hutu and Tutsi, at least for future generations?
