Femme courage
September, 1957. 18 miles from Algiers, near Chebli in the Mitidja. Twenty-year-old Louisette Ighilahriz was arrested by French paratroopers after having been badly wounded during a skirmish between a National Liberation Army unit and soldier of the foreign 3rd paratroop division. Tortured, sentenced and imprisoned, she escapes in February 1942, thanks to the aid of some militant communists. Louisette today lives in Algiers and works as a psychologist. She relates: "Those seven years of war were atrocious years, dark, unspeakable years, but we thought that it was the end of the tunnel, that Algeria would never again experience such times..."
