For a decade, investors the world over drew profit from the most spectacular fête ever offered by the "globalized" markets. The buffet to which these speculators pressed took place in Asia. The World Bank called the Asian economies a "miracle." In the early 90s, capital invested in this part of the world yielded increasingly bigger returns. In July 1997, the biggest speculative bubble in finance history burst in Asia and send shock waves around the world. The cause of this three billion dollar crash: a mere real estate crisis in Bangkok. Those who had bet on globalized capitalism took fright at what Bill Clinton called "minor hitches."
