Journey to Ischia and Rome, via Naples, to discover a writer, Erri de Luca. First of all, Ischia, an island opposite Naples, a key place for the writer as it is where he draws the inspiration for his books. From the top of Mount Epomeo opposite the sea, the writer reads excerpts from his books. During walks in the island's port and a boat trip, Robert Bober films up close the silences and words of Erri De Luca. The body marked by time, with its sinewy workman's muscles, the sun-dried skin, and the callused hands are one way of grasping the writer's universe. Naples is the town the writer left as a teenager. He rediscovers the narrow alleyways which the midday sun never reaches, the past, and his relationship with his mother. In Rome, into the place where Erri De Luca lives, his library, and the writers they both admire.
