Island Minister Eamon 0'Cuiv has announced that the ESB will carry out the necessary work to bring light and power to Islandmore, Co. Mayo. Peaidí de Paor is an elderly bachelor who lives independently in a previously untouched pocket in this area, stuck firmly in the past. Having heard this ESB announcement on the radio, Peaidí mumbles with discontent. He has got on for years without this intervention. After two months everything is ready and the area can look forward to an easier life from now on. Peaidí becomes curious, yet suspicious of the new telephone that they installed, the television and electric saw that he bought, and even a light bulb that "holds the sun in a bottle'", as he believes !
