Drei Kugeln und ein totes KindTrois balles et un enfant mort
The image made front pages around the world: a young boy huddled against his father in a hail of bullets, seeking shelter behind a barrel. In vain. The child, aged 12, died as the camera looked on. Father and son had been caught in crossfire between Palestinian and Israeli soldiers. The child became a martyr, and the piece of film became a forceful indictment of Israel. The program, Das Rote Quadrat, analyzes these spectacular images and questions what, at first sight, seems evident. Were the fatal bullets really fired by Israeli soldiers? Was it an accident? A murder? Who killed Mohammet Al-Dura? Esther Schapira, director at Germany's ARD television, carefully reconstitutes the tragedy, examines every trail, questions the persons involved and comes to some astonishing conclusions.
