Days and Nights in an Indian Jail
Shot over a year inside Delhi's Tihar Central Jail, the largest prison in South East Asia, this film focuses on a handful of inmates. The main focus is on a family of four: Bhabhuti, his wife, Prempatta, and their 25-year-old son, Rama Shankar, are serving a life sentence for the murder of Rama's wife. Prempatta's youngest daughter, Pushpa, also lives with her mother in the prison. Children are allowed to stay until the age of five, then they must leave. Pushpa's future is uncertain as there is a choice of either sending her to the village or to a boarding school where a charity has found a place for her. The film charts the conflicts that arise in the family as Pushpa's time of release approaches. The pressures of life in Tihar are movingly captured in this engaging documentary.
