Comprendre pour mieux aider : le CICR proche des victimes
In Afghanistan, the Palestinian territories and many other places around the world, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) comes to the aid of the civilian victims of war. Sakim and Bassira don't know each other but they have something in common: one way or the other they are victims of the conflict that has racked Afghanistan for the past 20 years. "In the wake of war" shows the ICRC distributing relief supplies to internally displaced persons, giving medical treatment to the disabled and striving to ensure that prisoners of war are treated in accordance with humanitarian law. Basing its work on the same principles of neutrality and impartiality as in Afghanistan, the ICRC takes action to help people affected by the Israel-Palestine conflict. "Three ICRC programmes in the West Bank and Gaza" illustrates work such as that to warn people of the dangers posed by mines and other unexploded munitions, as well as legal support for Palestinian lawyers resisting the deliberate destruction of civilian dwellings. "A portrait of Jennifer" describes the experience of a young Canadian offering psychological support for ambulance drivers and Palestine Red Crescent volunteers confronted with the harsh reality of war.
