Bienvenido a Colombia
Two million displaced persons, one million emigrating Colombians over the past five years, 35,000 murders per year, 70,000 antipersonnel mines scattered all over the country, a kidnapping every ten minutes: Colombia is the theatre of one of the most tragic wars of our time. Blame who you will--drug traffickers, guerrilla fighters, paramilitary groups, the government, the army, the United States--they are closely linked. Today, the State has lost its power and legitimacy. This is the context in which a new election period is opening, an unstable period during which Catalina Villar attempts to sort out the extreme complexity of her country's situation. A player in this film, she provides its main thread. In the face of doubt, she clings to any possible solution. She questions and considers. From Cauca to the Pacific Coast, from Caguan to Bogota, she travels through Colombia. And from query to query, from meeting to meeting, she gains a growing understanding of the reality of her country.
