Au-delà de la peinture
Pierre Beuchot and Dominique Rabourdin film the selection of prestigious works that Werner Speis had brought to the Georges Pompidou Centre. It includes the wildest Dalis, the most beautiful Magrittes, the most overwhelming Tanguys. These paintings are accompanied by readings of historic texts by the Surrealists (Breton, Aragon, Eluard, Péret, Crevel, etc.) and the painters themselves. We also see the artists at work in their studios. French and foreign film archives (in Great Britain, the United States and Belgium) have conserved rare footage of René Magritte, Max Ernst, Giorgio de Chirico, Francis Picabia, Yves Tanguy, Marcel Duchamp, Man Ray and Giacometti, as well as films on the major surrealist shows in London (1936), Paris (1938 and 1947) and New York.
