Algérie(s)
Two years in the making, this film uses archives and recent interviews to investigate the corridors of power and the Algerian opposition. For the first time, the Algerian tragedy from 1988 to the present day, in which 150,000 people have perished, is told from the inside by the main players in the conflict. Algeria(s): a people without a voice," the first part of this documentary, describes the rise of Islamic fundamentalism through legal means and the strange relationship between the State and these forces made with the complicity of certain foreign powers. Part two deals with what is called "the red decade": the targeted terrorism (1992-1994), the internationalization of terrorism (as of 1995) and the period of the major massacres and human rights violations. Rise of Islamism, manipulations, oil money, corruption -- these are the vital elements toward an understanding of how Algeria has come to this and the future in store for it.
