Vamps et femmes fatales du cinéma européen
From Musidora to Brigitte Bardot, from Marlene Dietrich to Silvano Mangano, this film puts us in the company of the European cinema’s greatest stars. They haunt the collective imagination of moviegoers—these “larger than life” women who wield their charms like a weapon, arouse desire and lure their prey to almost certain downfall, often before they are lost themselves. These seductresses are also rebels against the established order: by accepting the prejudices they are accused of, they exact legitimate vengeance against a male-dominated social system. They give vent to fantasies and liberate repressed urges. Their subversiveness never went unnoticed, since the censors stalk them and demand they be punished. But it’s an image of liberty, beauty and poetry that they imprint on every film buff’s soul. This documentary pays tribute to that poetry.
