I wanted to acquire Hungarian citizenship. The administrative process of this request for a passport provides the film's narrative structure. I quickly found myself dealing with what I considered vital questions: what is citizenship, what use is a passport, what do we inherit? Gradually, in the course of the shooting, the film drew on my story, the story of my family in Hungary and Brazil, the story of Hungarian Jews, Transylvanians, and more generally, the story of those who want to cross a border.
