Sanzhyra

Sanzhyra, name of an old kyrghyzian folk song, is a day in the life of a small boy who lives in a village on the lake of Issyk-kul in Kyrghyzia. It is a very important day for him as well as for every Kyrghyz because he is to be circumcised. The boy is excited, afraid and proud at the same time - he does not only become a Moslem, he becomes a "new person", passing into a new stage of life.
