Ryke Yse
In the autumn of 1967, two intrepid friends made their way to the three small Ryke Yse islands of the east coast of Svalbard (Spitzbergen) to hunt polar bears. Their dream was two years full of adventure. Sadly, only one of them returned to Norway. In the summer of 1999, Birger Amundsen and Otto Ottemo set off in the Aurora, a small vessel built for arctic waters, to pay tribute to the two hunters. All that lay between them and their goal was the ice, a heaving, churning mass and an ever present threat in those pitiless, far-off waters.
