Recording Vivaldi Uptown
Today a musician’s career is determined by his CD recordings. And because music is an industry, encounters are dreamt up in the offices of the music major companies. Artists that have never even met, will have to give their very best on call … alone in the studio, with a mike and no audience. David Daniels is an American counter-tenor who lives in Washington, and Fabio Biondi, an Italian violinist from Parma who conducts the "Europa Galante" group he created. In August 2OO1, they recorded Vivaldi’s "Stabat Mater" together… far from Venice where the maestro worked and composed, in uptown New York City. From the choice of the program to the final edit, director Olivier Simonnet reveals the artistic, technical and emotional aspects of this recording in New York City, an unlikely and magical background for the spirit of baroque music.
