Out of the Shadow Into the Sun
A chronicle about the history of women and their struggle to perform in the bullring. Bullfighting itself has a rich and controversial past, and in a domain where donjuanismo runs high, young women have fought with passion and perseverance to gain recognition and respect in a critical taurine world. The film is a provocative look at some of these fascinating women who strove to become toreros and matadors. Here are a few of them, matadors and novice bullfighters, describing in their own words their lives, their art and their fear as they face the bulls. The women are beautiful, dynamic and intense, of all ages and places, including Mexico, Spain, Colombia and even Italy. The aim of the film is not to convert those who object the bullfighting, even though the main attraction is the bull, but to focus on some incredible young women, who, against all odds, still chose to pursue a dangerous and bloody artistic career.
