Multiple Identities - Encounters with Daniel Barenboim

This film is more than just a biography. It tells the story of the development of music in the 2nd half of the 20th century seen through the eyes of an outstanding artist and shows many facets of the versatile personality of Daniel Barenboim. In this documentary he tells us about his life and personal experiences. In addition the film shows the astonishing allround nature of the musician from his appearance as conductor in Wagner's "Festspielhaus" in Bayreuth to that of "jazz-musician" playing Duke Ellington. We accompany Barenboim on his worldwide performances starting in summer 1999 up to his stage anniversary in Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires, in summer 2000 and his controversial performance of Wagner's "Tristan and Isolde" in Jerusalem in summer 2001.
